Chakras and Yantras
YANTRAS
In Yogic tradition, a yantra is the equivelant of a Buddist madala. According to Tantra, at creation, a splitting occurred creating an explosion of energy in the world. The process of unfolding occurs through the pure unity of Shiva, until such a state is reached, or involution, when this process must reverse and evolution, or growing towards its center, must occur. A yantra, is a visual tool that supports the evolution of the consiousness toward the inward focus of unity.
Comment: In many western minds, “evolution” is a journey outwards and beyond the center. It is enlightening to see evolution as a growth towards greater consciousness and support in the process of “becoming”, both individually and collectively.
SRI YANTRA

This is considered the “mother of all yantras”. It is composed of nine interlacing triangles centered around the bindu, or center. It is comrprised of five downward triangles and four upward triangles representing the male and female principles of Shakti and Shiva.
When a person is on a journey of discovery and enlightenment, the Sri Yantra focuses ones attention from the external or outer edges to the center, an ascent towards the inner potential of his/her human consiousness.
